Now now Julie, calm down…….. they’re the bird feeder sort !
Its costing me a small fortune every week, and here’s why………

These greedy guts, Jackdaws, literally tear the damn things apart and can empty a feeder in 20 minutes!
And guess who’s come to dinner…….. yep, the good old british Wood Pigeon!

If its edible and its on the floor these fat buggers will eat it !!
When I get round to it there will be some more pictures, the above were just a few grabbed as snapshots from a video made earlier, the wonders of modern technology

Yow! Those Jackdaws are really large birds. I guess that even a really small mesh wouldn’t keep them out much. It might keep big pieces from falling down to the pigeon though.

Pheeew … my blood pressure went haywire for a minute … there are certain words which are not mentionable in my presence
We have a bird over here called a Grey Loerie :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_Go-away-bird
I throw bread and seeds down for the birds evey day, and guaranteed these buggers will come along the minute I throw everything down (sometimes they don’t even wait for me to go back inside before they start devouring everything).
They tease the living hell out of my dogs because they sit on the roof and screech at them (they make quite a distinctive and very loud noise hence their nickname “Go-away’bird”). It gets quite unbearable sometimes between the barking and the screeching … I’ve given up trying to chase them away because they’re so damn cheeky they just turn around and screech at me!
They’re quite cute really ….

Hence the ‘calm down’ bit Julie……
Buy an air rifle, that’ll do the trick…..

I don’t see jackdaws at all, plenty of pigeons though! My bird feeders, or fat ball, have hardly been touched recently so I assume that there’s plenty of other food, such as insects, around. Cheers!

Hi Mike, thanks for stopping by… I’ve scrounged some plastic ‘netting’ type stuff and made access to the bird table harder for larger birds, whats left of the fat balls is now on the bird table….

Thanks Dee, there’ll be some more soon, including a cock pheasant and his ladies… just gotta grab snapshots from the video tape I made….

There’s good eating on a Wood Pigeon and as they’re classed as Pests you could get an Airgun and get yourself some dinner. I dunno what Pigeon Tikka Masala tastes like though.
Jackdaws are classed as pests as well. I don’t know what they taste like though
Link to pest status & legal stuff.

Hi cha0tic, did that years ago with woody’s but the hassle of preparation, i.e. plucking, gutting, cleaning etc aint worth it anymore, now access to the bird table is restricted they’ve gone back to cropping the grass…
And the jackdaws are still around but will hopefully bugger off when they realise the pickings aint so good for them anymore!!
And I’ve got new visitors, a couple of chaffinches!!
