I’ve planted a small tub with chives, one of my favourite culinary plants, ideal for a mild onion flavour, the long window box I also seeded, an idea from Flighty’s Plot, the box is planted in thirds, 1st: Royal Blue Forget Me Nots, 2nd: White Alyssum, 3rd: as the 1st, so should give a blue/white/blue showing with maybe a slight overlap…. well the seeds were very small and difficult to see….. ![]()
Next month I’ll get the bedding plants in the new patch, possibly as per Flighty’s suggestion a hydrangea or three along the back……
As usual photo’s forthcoming when something is worth snapping….!!

Sunday…. and Chilly!
Posted by Pete on March 22, 2009
After the pleasure of yesterdays sunshine and mild temerature today has been a bit of a let down…..
Its very windy, and that wind has a chill to it, and its been overcast all day….
After mowing the lawn yesterday I had some plans for small alterations to bits of the gardening, ’squaring off’ one particular bit thats looking a bit ‘not quite right’… was gonna do it today but no chance….
Lets hope for some more warmth and sunshine in the coming week…

‘Pottering Time’
Posted by Pete on February 16, 2009
Managed a lie-in this morning for a change, very welcome I can say, trouble is I’m now back into the cycle of sleep which usually ends up with me being nocturnal….. guess I’m just ‘bats’
Anyway, back to the title…… took some garbage out to the bin earlier and found it was quite mild if a tad cloudy outside so decided it was time to make the most of it and get some tidying done around the garden, an hour or more later, pruning, raking dead leaves etc all done, even got rid of a holly bush opposite my back door, I say ‘bush’ but it was far from it, the bloody thing had been allowed to grow wild so was over four feet high with four or five offshoots every nine inches or so, making it a prickly leggy nuisance…… its now a stump, two inches thick and just above ground level….
The rest of the pruning was mostly cutting back roses and suchlike to make them tidier, I’m glad the previous occupant went for a garden that was easy to maintain but why she had to have 90% of the plants with thorns I will never know!
Anyway, its done now, I’ve found snowdrops hiding under leaf litter and lots of various shoots breaking ground, it’ll be nice to see what they eventually produce…
Tomorrow if its dry is a quick tidy up of the window box and a potted lavender out front, the window box already has numerous shoots coming up despite the fact that when I first moved here it appeared to be just full of dead soil and weeds!
So…. when I get a new battery charger for my camera batteries I’ll post some photo’s, I’ll leave it until the shoots are more advanced and I’ll at least have half a clue whats growing…. in the meantime I’m ‘happily knackered’
