Hatches Battened Down…

Posted by Pete on February 1, 2009

Shopping done yesterday, stocked up now for the best part of a week or more, the weather forecast says we have snow on its way and its gonna be the coldest winter for 13 years…..
And this is ‘global warming’? personally I don’t see any warming taking place, luckily my new home is easy to keep warm, even if the gas bill is huge…. bugger them, they make enough profit so I’m gonna pay them ‘on the drip’ so I don’t add interest to their already over the top profits….
Anyway, its Sunday, the first of february, the high point of this month looks like being more ‘kisses’ etc from a facebook friend in Montgomery Alabama, might even get a fellow card collector or two to join the ‘fun’ and start sending me stuff too…
Trouble is I’m a ‘typical’ Virgo, critical and tending to weigh up everything on its merits before committing to any action, true friends remain true friends until they prove otherwise then I have no second thoughts in deleting them from my life….
I’m long overdue one of my ‘deletion’ times……

On a lighter note, the bird feeders are still getting used on an hourly basis, I put the new bird table out last year but it needs at least another four or five coats of preservative, even though the manufacturers ’say’ its pre-treated….. still trying to beat Daffy on the sparrow Hawk but I think I saw a Kestrel in a tree yesterday, here in Lincs we see them daily doing that great ‘hover’ thing alongside road borders etc but they tend to go for live prey, not feeders… so the one I saw might have been checking out the birds stuffing themselves at my expense!!!
Still waiting on getting my knee fixed so mobility is still an issue, and to think I used to love walking, now I have to second think a trip to the bloody loo….
I wish I could win the lottery, I’d visit friends all over the world, conclude all previous hassles with folks I hate and die a happy man… eventually!!

Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph Website:

New severe weather warning
Wednesday, December 10, 2008, 12:33

A new severe weather warning has been issued for North Lincolnshire as the wintry conditions continue.
The news comes as the big freeze continues to see people slipping and sliding their way into the Scunthorpe General Hospital accident ward.
A hospital spokeswoman said 17 people were treated in an eight-hour period on Monday for injuries suffered slipping or tripping on the ice.
It is not known the extent of the latest injuries and if any patients were detained.
As previously reported in the Scunthorpe Telegraph, following snowfall around the region on December 3 and 4, the hospital treated 67 people for snow-related falls within two days.
And the weather is set to deteriorate again over the weekend, with the Met Office warning of possible ‘heavy snow fall’ in North Lincolnshire.
A new severe weather warning has been issued, which reads: “There is the potential for heavy snow, perhaps bringing significant disruption to the road network.”
The snow could also be accompanied by gale force winds.

So a couple of days of rain again as ‘getting it right’ seems alien to our weather forecasters!

Me No Like !!

Posted by Pete on November 22, 2008

Two freecyclers today so got rid of even more stuff….. on letting out the last one I noticed it was getting a bit overcast…..
Five minutes later, snow!
It didn’t settle or last long but it was trying to snow….. later on it tried again, sky a ‘funny colour’, small flakes lazily dropping from the sky…..
Thermal socks on, long johns on, thermal tee shirt on….. me no like snow but I’m bloody well ready for it….. :)
The first freecycler to arrive is an old friend from many freecycle deals, old guy called Ron who drives a fifty mile round trip to collect from me and always brings a bottle of home made wine…. today he came empty handed, or so I thought…. out of his coat pocket, a made up bottle of what he’s labelled ‘Percy Special’, a mix of cherry brandy and whiskey….. jeez its good, warms the cockles of me heart it does… good lad Ron, howz about a couple of gallons next time, pretty please!! ;) :)
Have a good weekend you lot, weather permitting of course, either way, stay warm !!!

Snow and sleet also fell in northern Scotland and south-east England as temperatures plunged to -4C in parts of Britain.

Football matches were either postponed or abandoned at Luton, Northampton, Walsall and Wycombe because of the weather conditions.

Sky weather presenter Denise Nurse said: “It’s highly unusual to have snow in October – we haven’t seen October snowfall in London since 1934.

“The weather will be cold, bright and frosty. Snow will mainly affect Northern Ireland, Wales and the north of England. It’ll also be breezy, feeling almost blizzard-like.

Wet weather is expected to hit eastern coasts in England and Scotland too.

More snow and sleet is also a possibility especially in higher ground in Scotland.

Cardiff will enjoy the highest temperatures, with a maximum of 10C (50F), while central Scotland is not expected to rise above 3C (37.4F).
